3. Weight Gain
The weight gain is a good indication that the baby is drinking enough milk. Here are a few clues.
- Most breastfed babies will loose 5 to 7 percent of their birth weight during the first three or four days after birth.
- Your baby should gain at least four to eight ounces (113 to 227 grams) per week during the three first months and at least three to five ounces (85 to 142 grams) per week between the fourth and sixth month.
- Your baby should have returned to his/her birth weight by the second or third week.
